In coming up with the name Zanthus, our founder and CEO relied on his schooling in English literature and more specifically, his knowledge of Greek mythology. After considerable research, he eventually hit upon Xanthus from the Greek xanthos, meaning 'reddish-yellow' (hence, our yellow-gold logomark). He spelled the name with a 'z' to avoid confusion with a now-defunct French software firm.
The name Xanthus appears in Greek mythology as the name of a river god and a city sacred to the sun god Apollo. However, it's most famously associated with Achilles' immortal horse in the Trojan War. This noble steed was the ancient Greek version of Mr. Ed, complete with human intelligence, speech and the ability to predict the future. Just as with our four-legged namesake, with Zanthus, you’re always one step ahead.
